Traveling Is Overrated??
Recently I was talking to a friend about taking a trip to a country we’ve never been to. We were talking about how much we love visiting different places, meeting new people and stuff. My friend and me, we were both enthusiastic, feeling like little kids before the big game.
An older gentleman sitting nearby overheard our conversation, he was smiling mildly, nothing malicious, just a benevolent smile. He then threw a question, “You’re going on a trip? Where to?” He then continued, “You travel often?” After a brief pause, I replied, “Yes, I love expanding horizons, seeing something new.” I thought the gentleman would now say something like, “Yeah, you need to see the world while you can. Good for you.” But nope, he said, “There are better things in life to put your time and money into.” He wasn’t rude or saucy, just like he had some advice for us.
As we got deeper into a conversation, he explained that the time on this planet is limited, and that there’s only so much time, money, and energy we have available to achieve something important in life. And then he said it: “Traveling is overrated.”
I thought to myself, “Traveling is overrated??” I’m the guy who believes traveling is one of the best things you can do for yourself in life. There are so many benefits you get from traveling. And now, traveling is overrated? But this gentleman wasn’t somebody…
