They’ve Got $30 Million — Cash
In a heist reminiscent of a Hollywood blockbuster, a daring group of thieves broke into a GardaWorld money storage facility in San Fernando Valley on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, making off with an estimated $30 million in cash. This audacious crime ranks among the largest in Los Angeles’ history.
What happened?
The incident took place at a GardaWorld facility located on Roxford Street in Sylmar, which manages cash from various businesses across Southern California. Shockingly, the heist went unnoticed as the thieves managed to bypass all security measures without triggering a single alarm.
An unidentified GardaWorld employee expressed astonishment at the audacity of the theft, stating to KTLA, “This is mind-blowing bad. You would never suspect it, $30 million in the Valley — gone.” The employee further admitted he was unaware of the large amount of cash stored at the Sylmar facility.
The sophisticated nature of the break-in has led investigators to believe that the burglary crew was highly experienced. Thieves gained access to the vault by entering the building through the roof. Despite the break-in, there were no apparent signs of forced entry outside the vault, and facility officials were oblivious to the heist until the safe was opened on Monday.
