These Folks Are About To Install Purple Eyes

I just participated in a heated discussion that took place on a forum frequented by fans of fantasy books. I’m not a big fan of the fantasy genre, but I do appreciate imaginative ideas that could become reality someday. I also value a well-written piece, regardless of the genre. I ended up there in pursuit of some other things, but that’s another story.

Anyway, I got into a discussion because some people on this forum were determined to make their eyes purple. Yes, they are so fascinated with all kinds of magical characters and creatures that they want nothing less than purple eyes. And I mean p-u-r-p-l-e! Not the pale version or reddish, but really purple, like what you see in sci-fi movies.

At first, I thought they wanted to make their eyes purple temporarily, but I soon realized they were talking about getting purple eyes and keeping them permanently, without the option of reverting to their normal eyes ever again.

I can understand that love for a fantasy world can go far, but making your eyes purple and looking like a magical creature forever, while living in this world, going to work, and participating in everyday activities, that’s crazy! These people were ready to undergo complicated (and dangerous) medical procedures, use chemicals and potions, do whatever it takes to have their eyes purple. I think that kind…
