My friend, do you love art?
Exploring the Depths of Art: A Personal Journey into Why We Love It
I like visiting museums and enjoying beautiful pieces. And I thought it was a good idea to invite a friend to join me in visiting some galleries.
To my surprise, he wasn’t that much enthusiastic about it.
“I don’t really like art,” he brushed off my suggestion.
I thought, “Maybe he’s not that much interested in visiting galleries, but he must be interested in some kind of art.” It turned out he considers admiring art a waste of time. As he put it, “I’m a logical and practical person. Standing in front of a piece of art and thinking how beautiful that piece is doesn’t do much for me. Waste of time.”
I thought everybody likes some kind of art!
That got me thinking. Why do I love art? What does that do for me?
Why do people love art? Are there really some people who don’t feel anything when presented with artwork?
Why do I love art?
First of all, when I’m looking at an interesting work of art, that takes me on an emotional rollercoaster ride. It’s a powerful emotional trigger. A beautiful painting evokes emotions, a funny sketch can make me laugh, a magnificient sculpture makes me pause in wonder.
