This man used to stroll the streets. No home and no hope. Only drugs and the scenes of a difficult childhood behind him. But his life was about to change.

A story of resilience, transformation, and the power of second chances.

Dan Carter was once a drug addict.

Life Path:

Shortly after his birth, his mother passed away, leaving his newly single father to care for a large family of five girls and three boys, which proved to be too much for him to handle alone.

Newborn Dan and his toddler brother, Tommy, entered foster care, and they were unfortunately separated.

He struggled with dyslexia throughout his school years, but wasn’t diagnosed until he was a teenager.

Then, at the age of 8, Dan was raped.

A man lured him at a gas station and sexually abused him. Dan didn’t tell anyone. He was ashamed — after all, he disobeyed his dad’s instructions and believed it was his fault. Dan wouldn’t tell anyone for decades.

When he was 13, his adoptive brother died in a traffic accident.

Dan started to use alcohol to make things bearable, then cocaine and crack.
